Round head; white face and neck; dark crown stripe continuing to nape; dark cheek patch that extended to the chin; bluish bill with dark nail. --- Swimming from the lagoon back to the Highway One bridge while foraging."

- Comments: "Juvenile type scoped swimming in the northern portion of the lake until disappearing with strong winds sweeping through the lake. Smallish gull with brownish looking back and neck, a very long black tail, and small bill. Seems to be afraid of the big gulls near it. Size was too big for Little and head/face pattern was not like Franklin or laughing. Also doesn’t have the prominent dot behind the eye as in Bonnies, and back was also too brown."

- Comments: "Continuing. Standing and walking in the open along reed edge at far W part of lake. Even at a distance, large brown body (noticeably bigger than night-heron), long, brown-striped neck, long, tapered bill, and distinct posture with head held high all observed. Very slow, methodical movement when walking."
