18 observers in 8 parties and 5 feeder watchers participated in the Wichita Christmas Bird Count held on Saturday the 20th. The weather was mild, although it was windy in the afternoon. Our unofficial total is 99 species, with 3 count-week species. Species of note include: Long-tailed Duck (1), Bonaparte's Gull (4), Common Loon (3), Great Egret (1), Northern House Wren (1), Orange-crowned Warbler (4) and Pine Warbler (1). An Audubon's Yellow-rumped Warbler was also notable. The Osprey didn't hang around for count-day, but was seen during count-week. A big thanks to all who counted birds!
