Friday (19th Dec) at the James T. Slaven Conservation Area (Spokane County) I spotted an odd looking duck being trailed by a male Mallard. The odd one doesn't look like a Mallard, especially the bill - at least, not to me. However, it was quite a distance away - on the far side of the main pond as viewed from the Redwing Trail - so the photos I took are not great, but I hope someone might be able to help me identify this oddity. Is it a partially leucistic Gadwall or something else?
The face (especially in one of the photos) reminds me of Long-tailed Duck, a species that would be out of place in this location. However, they do show up inland now and then.
