Subject: [GABO-L] Sandhill cranes - at last!
I thought we had missed them this time around - until a Great horned owl
calling (yes - daytime!) got my attention in our lower yard around 3:30pm.
When I looked up thru the woods I saw a small group of 7 cranes flying
below the heavy cloud cover, silently, heading south. Then several more
small groups. I headed up to open sky on our street and saw the last 4
more distant. So just 32 total. I heard nothing until some faint cries
off to the south. How many did I miss before the owl called??

btw this happens to be the 4th anniversary of the day when a
Yellow-throated Warbler appeared in our Winter yard. I told the story here
... I was shocked and sure it would be gone in moments as I grabbed my
camera to document it! It became like a family pet & survived on Bark
Butter I fed it twice a day. It stayed with us for ... 98 days.

Happy New Year everyone! Vicki DeLoach / Cherokee Co.
