Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Friday longspurs negative
I arrived at Brown Field Friday morning at dawn and was greeted by zero Horned Larks. Starting around 7:00 a.m. small group started arriving, and by 7:30 or so there were 105 Horned Larks present plus 40 pipits, compared to the 125+ Horned Larks present yesterday morning when the two Thick billed Longspurs were with them. Three of us then stayed till a little after 8:15 and had no luck with those birds. Whether or not they join the grouping only some mornings or simply prefer to be somewhere else is unknown. There is certainly plenty of additional Horned Lark habitat elsewhere in the area and subgroups of larks were seen flying off in various directions both yesterday and today, so it may well be a big matter of luck that one intersects the correct grouping.....

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
