Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] eBird hotspot creation - anyone can suggest one
If you’re at a location deserving of a hotspot, and one doesn’t exist, you
can simply suggest one and it will go into the hotspot review queue. See
directions here:
https://support.ebird.org/en/support/solutions/articles/48001009443-ebird-hotspot-faqs

Ideally the first person to realize there is not a hotspot or stakeout
(functionally the same thing) at a given rarity would suggest it and then
let me or Sadowski know, we don’t otherwise get a notification. Don’t worry
about the precise naming, we can modify the name/location, merge it with
another if it’s redundant, or simply revert it to a personal location
(people occasionally suggest their yard as a hotspot mistakenly).

Clearly, spots like productive tipus warrant further visitation and the
creation of the hotspot may encourage that in the future (beyond whatever
the latest rarity is there).

Happy holidays.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
