Subject: [CT Birds] Coastal Center
12/17 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 10am-1PM. overcast,
35F-40F, high tide-receding.
We had a surprise visit from a raccoon today- perched on the first level of
the observation tower. It appeared to be young, and we temporarily closed
off the tower until the raccoon leaves.
On the marsh: 8 Gadwall, 11 Buffleheads , 61 American Black ducks (some
huddled together in the marsh grass), 54 Canada Geese, 2 Mallards, 1
Cooper's hawk flyover, 2 Mute swans and 1 Northern Harrier flying over the
marsh.
On the grounds & feeders: 10 Mourning doves, 1 Carolina Wren, 5 House
finches, 4 White throated sparrows, 3 Song sparrows, 9 House sparrows, 5
Cardinals, 3 Tufted Titmice, 1 Downy woodpecker and 1 very vocal
Mockingbird.
