I'm using my portion of the Red Slough CBC yesterday for my weekly bird survey for this week. The totals from everybody who participated in the CBC will be posted at some point. The weather was clear and cold (low 20's to mid 40's) with a light wind. We started off in the dark owling and went to dark that evening. One of the highlights was finding a field full of Woodcocks that were leaving the field to go to roost. A group of us returned that evening and watched them returning to the field when a high count of 32 Woodcocks were obtained by part of the group that was watching further down the road from me. Other highlights included a Crested Caracara that flew across Red Slough road right in front of Josh Smith and me at 7:01 a.m. right before sunrise. We didn't realize they were such early risers. Other notable finds included an American Bittern, Plegadis ibis', King Rail, and Common Gallinules. Here is my list from yesterday:
