Subject: Re: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Final Hot Spot list for eBird third week of Dec starting tomorrow Dec 15 and Project accomplishment
Hi all,
I just wanted to thank John B. for putting this project together and Ruslan B. for the map. Participating in this project introduced me to hotspots that were both on my area and mountains I had not known about as well as other spots in the county. Lots of fun! Thanks gentlemen!!!!
Happy holidays to all!!

Greetings
So this weeks list is my final list. It’s been a great run, a little over a year and the birding community has made some great progress filling in data gaps at the Hot spot level and in the process filling in some bar charts.
When I sent out my first list back in October of 2024 there were 331 hot spots (27% of the county’s roughly 1243 hot spots) with full bar charts. Today there are now 486 hot spots (39% of the county’s hot spots) with full bar charts. An impressive 155 hot spots added. In addition there are 33 hot spots that only need one more checklist and another 74 hot spots that need 2-10 checklists sometime over the next year to also have full bar charts.
Future efforts are somewhat up in the air. Ruslan has indicated he may occasionally send out a list when there are a number of hot spots that could use checklists. Maybe in a few years as more hot spots are visited it might be worthwhile to consider another project like this one.
So here’s the map link for this next week: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1KIGx2ujjx-QL_yyYDMlZzqG5JG8dCRU&usp=sharing
This week’s hot spot list includes 6 hot spots that only need a checklist and they will have full bar charts (they were included in the 486 number so hopefully they will all be visited), highlighted in red.
Hot Spots
Anza-Borrego Desert SP--Sentenac Canyon
Carmel Mission Park
Cuyamaca Rancho SP--Azalea Glen Trail
Forester Creek Trail - 1
Hanson Pond Trail - 1

Laguna Mtns.--Pine Creek Rd. near S1
Little La Jolla Canyon - 1

In closing I do have a spreadsheet that shows by week all hot spots needing 15 or less checklists for next year. Let me know if you would like a copy.
Make sure you only send the request to me and not the entire group list. |
