Alerted by its bold white eye line (and lack of an incomplete eye ring), paler grey head, slightly paler brownish wings (compared to robins), paler underneaths, and slightly smaller size. Lack of spots / streaks on the chest and belly ruled out Redwing, Fieldflare, or Dusky Thrush. Adult type bird. Later flushed with the rest of the robins into deep trees and sunset prevented further searching. Hope to get photos tomorrow at CBC!"
Black-headed Grosbeak (Pheucticus melanocephalus) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Dec 13, 2025 10:22 by Dale Ball
- El Chorro Regional Park, San Luis Obispo, California

- Comments: "This bird popped up to the top of this oak and stayed there for just a bit. With the sparse feathering on the face, he looks like maybe he's got a bit of eye disease going on? The open-billed picture is of him yawning, not vocalizing. Seen less than 1/4 mile up the road after the dog park, on the left. There is a blue pipe and a taller white pipe close to where the bird was."
