I saw groups of Sandhills meeting up over Hamilton Medical Center at Dalton in Whitfield County. Groups of 50-75 each flock. Observed flocks circling while waiting on each other before pushing on south.
This is on the corridor directly south of Hiawassee Refuge at Birchwood.
They were staging not far from Dug Gap Mountain—less than a mile “as the crow flies!”
Two major highways seem to take most of the activity as they push southward….Hwy. 41 and I-75. We do see a good number on the 411 Hwy Corridor passing south through Murray County.
It was such great flying weather the last couple of days. We will probably see and hear a lot of birds today!
