A couple days ago I found what at the time I thought was a weird looking
teal, but has since been confirmed as a Garganey. It was still there as of
sundown today, with about 3 dozen birders coming to see it as well. It’s
been on the PA Birds Discord but I figured I’d send to the Listserv as
well.
However if you do go try and see it PLEASE DO NOT REPORT IT. There have
been hunting incidents there recently including someone poaching a green
winged teal, so just keep the checklist unsubmitted in your drafts for now
please.
Location: Woodbury Reservoir:
40.22644° N, 78.36886° W
Parking: see the included photo of the area with the parking marked. The
two churches have decent sized lots, however if you’re coming Sunday
morning do not park there as they fill up for Mass. Also do not park along
the alleyway (not even in the grass) as cars need that road open to get to
their homes, and most of the land is private.
