Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Dec 10, 2025 10:37 by John Deacon
- San Simeon Creek Mouth/Beach, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-121.1267052&<ll...>,-121.1267052 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S288055962 - Media: 2 Photos
- Comments: "Ongoing. Found directly under the bridge near a pile of debris in the creek. Small to medium sized Anser. Easy to miss because it was diving constantly. Depending on what side of the creek you are on, it could be hidden behind the bridge stanchions. Crisp mostly white head. White extended from the base of the bill to past the eyes. Dark cheek patch. Dark body. Stubby and solid colored bill."
Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Dec 10, 2025 12:35 by Tom Edell
- Port San Luis, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.7562256&<ll...>,-120.7562256 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S288084819 - Comments: "somewhat distant grebe foraging straight off the end of the pier. The sun was a little to the right of the bird so it was fairly back lit. The bird was by itself but stood out as a larger grebe with a long neck that constantly held its stout yellow bill below horizontal. Given the lighting the back, sides, neck and head looked dark. I was able to see a horizontal pale ear patch once when the head was perpendicular to me and had the impressions that it connected with a pale throat. Not a great look, but I am certain the ID is correct."
