Subject: Riverlands, St. Charles County - SHORT-BILLED GULL
This morning at Riverlands, St. Charles County I had an adult SHORT-BILLED GULL in the gull roost in Ellis Bay, directly across from Teal Pond. Unfortunately, the Short-billed and most of the other gulls flew down river towards the dam about 15 minutes after I found it. Hopefully, it will return in evening for others to see. For those looking… It is pretty easy to pick out, as it is a couple shades darker than an adult Ring-billed Gull, but not quite as dark as an adult Lesser Black-backed. Size wise – comparable to Ring-billed, maybe just a wee bit smaller, with a dainty green-yellow bill. I tried to turn it into a weird Lesser Black-backed for about a minute before I realized what I was looking at.

Here is my eBird checklist for now: eBird Checklist - 7 Dec 2025 - Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary - 31 species (+1 other taxa) <https://ebird.org/checklist/S287690370>

Good birding,
