Subject: [ia-bird] Eurasian Tree Sparrow Humboldt County
Late this morning/Early this afternoon while I was half-heartedly scouting
for the CBC on the 20th, I found this Eurasian Tree Sparrow Northeast of
Humboldt east of the Nevada/210th intersection heading towards the gravel
quarry just west of the East Des Moines. I think this may be the first
record for Eurasian Tree Sparrow for Humboldt County. It was consorting
with some female House Sparrows within a larger mixed flock of American
Tree Sparrows and Dark-eyed Juncos. It was rather difficult to keep eyes
on as it moved with the flock as they ate weed seeds on the road side and
were rather skittish frequently flushing up into the junipers in the
ditch. I was able to get this one...rather meh photo of it, but it is
sufficient to get the job done.
