Greetings SBCO Birders,
With December upon us, it is time to begin gearing up for the Santa Barbara Christmas Bird Count - to be held this year on Saturday January 3. Visit the Santa Barbara Christmas Bird Count webpage for more information:
The purpose of this message is to urge you to get out scouting and be on the lookout for our Target Species (Or of course anything even more unusual!), as listed below. This list can also be found on the “Target Species” tab on the Santa Barbara CBC website (see link above).
If you have an assignment for the count, it’s very helpful to scout your location prior to count day. If you do not yet have an assignment or are not participating in the count, you can help out by birding within the count circle and reporting your findings.
Please report sightings of these species within or near the SB CBC Count Circle via eBird, SBCO Birding, Slack, or to me directly.
We will be tracking Target Bird sightings between now and count day using Steve Colwell’s wonderful tool BirdView. This link will take you to a BirdView search showing Target Bird sightings between December 1 and Count Day within the count circle. (As December progresses the data for this search will be updated daily.)
