Checklist Comments: After yesterday's large numbers of mergansers and a couple of Great Egrets on the Bay, Sue and I decided to try for a better count and maybe some photos of the Hooded Mergansers today. Turned out the wind change moved most of the Common and Red-breasted Mergansers out. We did look at several spots along the W side from where Orchard Park Blvd. hits the Bay up to the N end plus a quick look from he Newport Yacht Club parking area - duck and DC Cormorants in the distance on the docks at the Newport House marina. Mergansers were to ar off shore for the photos we wanted. We did photograph the Great Egret on the docks just N of Orchard Park Blvd plus one under the willows near the NW corner of the Bay. Did not scope or try to count the mergs other than Hooded or the gulls.
