I was walking my dogs in my yard and heard a strange bird sound. I looked around, then up to see and hear a flock of about 50 Snow Geese flying overhead. I haven't seen or heard Snows for a few years but the muddle huddle (not a V) helped with the ID.
They were headed west so I drove to the Aultman Run boat launch but no waterfowl to be seen. Then I drove to Conemaugh Dam but no geese in the pool behind the dam.
I did see about 25 Common Mergansers. Most were females or juvenile; about 5 males.
Also one double-crested cormorant on a submerged stump by the boom.
