AL Birders:
In the first phase of a larger project to place benches at good birding
sites, the Alabama Ornithological Society has provided two new benches at
Fort Morgan State Historical Park. These were assembled and placed this week
by Ft. Morgan staff, and are located in The Stables woods at the north and
south ends of the "Plaza" (the large open area just west of the Sargents'
plaque and benches). Both provide views of nearby oaks frequently used by
migrants, and should be good places for birders both to rest and wait for
passing flocks.
More benches are planned for the park in the future, and we are in the
process of selecting other good sites in the AOS area where these may be
useful. All will have plaques noting AOS and with a QR code to our website.
If you know of a likely spot, please email me about it. Criteria are:
1. Good birding site where a bench would be helpful
2. At least moderate birder traffic
3. Unlikely spot for theft
Hope these are useful to visitors - I'm looking forward to sitting on them
myself!
