Hi Everyone!
Yesterday, Patricia and I checked out the new and improved trail starting at Alviso Marina. We walked to where you can cross over the railroad tracks to access A16. Ponds A12, A13 and A15 were dry. At the southwest corner of A16, it looks like they may be adding a second spot where we will be able to cross over the railroad tracks (but I'm not sure). The trail is gravel which was nice - no mud or ruts!
We had lots of *Black-necked Stilts*, *Least and Western Sandpipers*, *Dunlin*, *Savannah Sparrows* and *American Pipets*. There were a couple of *Greater Yellowlegs* and one *Lesser Yellowlegs* (right next to a Greater Yellowlegs for easy comparison). A skein or two of *Greater White-fronted Geese* flew overhead. The most interesting sighting was when we heard about 50 Black-necked Stilts very upset about something. We were looking for a nearby raptor but didn't see anything. As we got closer to all the commotion, we noticed that one of the stilts was injured in the water unable to fly. The other stilts appeared to be very upset/concerned about this bird. They kept flying over to it, calling a lot, not touching it, then flying away.
