I started my day seeing a Red Tail perched on a power tower behind my house.
Early this afternoon while sitting on the enclosed porch I heard the birds take off from the feeders and heard something on the rain gutter.
I went out to see what was on the gutter and a squirrel ran off.
But I looked up and saw an adult Red Tail circling over my house. While I watched it I heard the call of a Red Tail from a different direction.
I located the second Red Tail on the power tower where Red Tails have nested for the last 5 years.
Then an Accipiter flew by. Most likely a Coopers Hawk, which has been harassing birds at our feeders lately.
Next thing I noticed was a Yellow Belly Sapsucker, on the Black Walnut tree.
A few hours later when I looked out at one of the feeders I spotted a Fox Sparrow. This is my favorite sparrow, as there is really no question about its identity.
I looked back at my records and noted that we have had Fox Sparrows in the yard during this same week at least 3 times.
The Fox Sparrow and the Sapsucker were the first for the season.
