Then go to "*Click here for a map view of the circles*....."
All: Broomfield CO Christmas bird count circle - compiler name and email address given when you click on the "bird logo" on the map but does appear to be open for registration yet. Count Date is given as 12-27-25. I would check the map daily and refresh to see when registration begins, if interested.
Well, about time Broomfield got put on the map. The circle contains some of the best "hotspots" along the Front Range and does not appear to overlap any other count circles. The circle includes most of Broomfield and parts of Louisville, Lafayette, Erie, Northglenn, Thornton, and part of Weld County.
*Areas of interest* include Wanaka Lake, Hecla Pond, Metzger Farm, Plaster Reservoir, Erie Lake, Prince Lake #2, Thomas Lake, Alexx and Michael's Pond, the wildlife ponds at Westminster Community College, large portions of Big Dry Creek which runs from south west to north east - almost bisecting the entire circle (anyone up for a long 15 mile hike?), Eastlake, Hunter's Glenn Lake, Croke Reservoir, Margaret's Pond, Mushroom Pond, Vogel Ponds area, almost all of the Stearns Lake area, and clips parts of the eastern edge of the South Platte River (Adams County) including parts of the bikeway, ponds, and open space.
Like all Xmas bird count areas, it's a huge amount of area to cover, and not all of it can be covered (unless you're Superman), and has tons of walking along bikeways and hiking trails.
I'll try to post what I've been seeing in at some of these locations lately to help with those signing up for the Broomfield Christmas bird count. And what you should expect to see by December 27th.
Good luck, John T (Tumasonis), Broomfield CO "I'm not a real birder. I only pretend to be one on CoBirds."
