In the late morning on Sunday, the Black Tern sat on a rectangular metal frame, then on the black liner along the north bank of the South pond, and then flew off to fish in the North Pond where I eventually lost sight of it.
For those unfamiliar with this area, one enters the park along Calle Cesar E. Chavez at the west end of Guadalupe. Drive to the end of this Calle where there are closed gates to the sewage treatment facility; park nearby, and you will see a dirt path leading west along the boundary fence of the treatment facility. Take this path west for about 80 meters where there is a berm that affords reasonable views of the ponds.
By the way, my reading of the maps puts this location less than 150 meters inside Santa Barbara County.
