This morning, Sunday, 23 November, there were two Cattle Egrets south of Hollister in Goleta, between Los Carneros Way and Aera Camino, near the flooded areas on that side of the road.
Later and nearby, Jim Hodgson and I birded the tipu trees on David Love Place. There, we found a Hermit Warbler and another really odd-looking bird that was missing lots of feathers around its face and chin that may have been a Tennessee Warbler. Our confusion over this bird was compounded by it having a mostly pink bill, the shape of which was distorted by the absence of the feathers around its base. If you want to have a look, poor photos are here:
There were a couple of Swinhoe's White-eyes around, and at the time I had convinced myself this was one, despite the lack of obvious yellow in the under tail coverts. The general absence of feathers around the face is pretty confusing.
