Subject: [sbcobirding] Sandpiper, Tech Park, Goleta Beach
Four species of geese and a single female Hooded Merganser were present in
and around the Sandpiper Golf Course pond today. The geese included 3
Greater White-fronted, a single immature Snow, an Aleutian Cackling, and 10
Canadas.

The tech park just down the street was pretty boring. The tipus aren't
attracting many birds. This place should have dozens of Yellow-rumpeds at
this time of year, but I recorded only 10 or 12, even though I birded
the place from one end to the other. The most activity was in the central
area, where the euc grove, flowering Cape Ivy, and and some standing water
in the basin provide additional attractants.

The tide was pretty high today at Goleta Beach, and there was nowhere for
gulls to land around the slough mouth. Only a small flock of about 35 gulls
was near the restrooms, with Royal Terns. So, not great for gulls this
morning.
