All,
I led a SBAS field trip up to Ocean Park today. Beforehand, I did a quick check of the blackbird flock where the entrance road is but the flock remains mostly too far away to check properly.
As Daniel stated, the mouth is now open to the ocean. We were there on a falling tide but saw no exposed mud in the river itself except for the banks far upstream.
Birding is quite good right now. Several each of both Red and Red-necked Phalaropes remain along with, for these days, a good count of 24 Bonaparte's Gulls. There are currently 8 species of gull present, with just 1-5 each of Ring-billed, Short-billed, Herring and Glaucous-winged.
In addition to the phalaropes, there were quite a few shorebirds foraging around the mouth with multiple species of peeps and plovers along with 15 Black and 2 Ruddy Turnstones. I failed anything of note in with the ducks or grebes.
