Subject: [CT Birds] Colchester Evening Grosbeak
On a two mile kayak around Babcock Pond, I heard the repeated flight call of an Evening Grosbeak. It was in a particular coniferous section with Red? And White Pines at the southern end. Also nearby Pine Siskin, RB Nuthatches, and Purple Finches. I believe there are trails leading to the area from Miles Standish Rd but beware of hunters (both on land and lake!)
Also nearby in a marshy section of the lake was a Virginia Rail grunting away.
