Ty both! Most BOPs that I see locally are of the red shouldered or red tailed variety, not sure I’d recognize a BW if I saw one.

I serioulsy doubt BWs are twice as numerous as all others combined. What we count, so many, is likely skewed by virtue of the nature of how BWs move, in a narrow window and in large numbers together. This we have extensive coverage during that ~10 day period and presumably see a significant % of BWs moving through. The other species all have extended timre frames of migration, many moving at times when no one is watching etc.

Nevertheless I do think it likely that BWs are among the more numerous ratpr species in eastern U.S.

Totally normal. Broad wings are highly migratory and pretty common in forest habitat in the summer. They all winter south of us, so there are many passing through.

BW’s represent approx 2/3rds of those recorded…any comments? Are BW’s twice as numerous as all other raptors/hawks/whatever combined in our flyway?
