Observation start time: 10:15:00 Observation end time: 13:30:00 Total observation time: 3.25 hours
Official Counter: Phil Keener
Observers:
Visitors: Five, one (George Miller) with interest in migration once I told him why I was there.
Weather: Temp = 8-9C/46-48F, strong consistent westerly winds swinging NNW to west throughout watch. 50% cloud cover, excellent visibility.
Raptor Observations: Bald eagle movement was pretty well it as far as migrants. Local raptor activity was on low side.
Non-raptor Observations: Continued aerial replacement of the transformers on the transmission tower immediately to the west of the hawkwatch platform. Seven electricians on tower while helicopter provided the materials. Were working when I got there and I was surprised with the wind strength that they were doing it. Did eventually halt work due to the winds and expect to finish up tomorrow. Looked like an exhilarating harness suspended ride when the helicopter transported the crew off the tower two at a time in pretty gusty winds! Staging/drop area was nearby along Druck Valley Rd.
Predictions: A bit warmer with less wind. Even if the migrants aren't passing by tomorrow, seeing the transformer work completion might be worth a visit. Think of it as an episode of Mike Rowe's "Dirty Jobs". ======================================================================== Report submitted by Parks Volunteer (<parks...>)
