Join me Saturday morning as we bird Corona Heights Park. This 16 acre parcel managed by San Francisco Recreation and Parks/Natural Resources Division features several habitat types: coastal scrub/chaparral, coast live oak woodland, grassland and exotic/urban edge as well beautiful views of the city and interesting geological features.
The walk is primarily for beginning/intermediate birders looking to improve their field ID skills with a focus on vocalizations but all levels of observers are welcome. We also delve into the status and distribution of birds in the City, population trends and other interesting topics.
We often see unexpected rarities in addition to the residents and so far this year 120 species have been recorded. Check out the eBird hotspot page for the site to see what's been spotted recently:
After the walk, check out the Randall Museum's Wild in California live animal exhibit and say hello to Lyra the Raccoon, Virginia the Opossum, Grasshopper the Swainson's Hawk and Laurel the Western Screech Owl. Grab a cup of hot coffee or a sandwich from Cafe Josephine too.
