Hi,
Before getting into October’s birds there are 3 bird sightings that were
missed in prior months. They are:
1. Northern Waterthrush (5), found by Ozzie Altus on 2025-04-28 along the
Los Gatos Creek Trail between Vasona County Park and Oka Ponds
2. Brandt’s Cormorant (6), seen by Charles and Jillian Sismondo on
2025-08-31 at Salt Pond A8
3. Blackpoll Warbler (5), found by Kim Blythe on 2025-09-20 at Ulistac
Natural Area
Last month I had reported that the total number of birds year-to-date was
271. Adding the above 3 birds increases that number to 274 at the end of
September.
In October we added 8 new (ABA) countable birds, bringing the total to 282
at the end of the month. The average for October is 5 new birds, with an
average of 281 at the end of the month. Thank you to everyone who birded,
and took the time to report birds either on SBB, eBird, or send emails
directly to me.

As a reminder, here is what each rarity code means:
**Rarity Codes:
1 = common, always seen in habitat in season.
2 = fairly common, usually in habitat in season, but missed sometimes.
3 = uncommon, always around, but sometimes you can't find.
4 = rare, occurs yearly in the county, but not always in the same places.
5 = very rare, does not occur every year.
6 = casual or vagrant, generally fewer than 10 records.
Do not disclose information that identifies the location of nesting birds of any species, to minimize stress on the nesting birds and the risk of vandalism or abuse.
