Brown head with sharp demarcating line, white front, messy gray back, lighter underneath. Orange bill held upturned. Long body and neck. Larger than RUDU, GADW, BUFF as it paddled around raft of mixed waterfowl. Flew off lake towards west after circling once and passing directly overhead. Wings had distinct black outer half against white inner half. Orange feet and legs. Got good looks and have poor digiscoped photos if needed."
American Bittern (Botaurus lentiginosus) (1)
- Reported Nov 10, 2025 14:03 by Stephanie Leja
- Lake Los Carneros Park, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.84975&<ll...>,-119.84975 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S283952206 - Comments: "Beige/dry reed color throughout, distinctly striped neck. Got good looks, poor photos. Probably the same one that has been observed near here. GBHE flew in and spooked it into flight and view in the inlet to the NE of where trees and shrubs were cut. It flew towards the southern bank and we observed it for 20 minutes hunting on the edge of the reeds."
Red-naped Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus nuchalis) (1)
- Reported Nov 11, 2025 08:13 by Rebecca Coulter
- Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.710266&<ll...>,-119.710266 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S284033742 - Comments: "Seen around 8:50AM on the Black Oak on the eastern side of the meadow just above the large California buckeye tree on the east side of the trail. About 90% sure on this ID: adult, possibly male since I did not see any white in the chin. I did not see the back of the head, but one of my group clearly saw red on the nape. Pale wash of yellow on the lower belly. Extensive red on the throat and cheek. Was not able to see it long enough to note pattern of the border around red. Hopefully others can get up there to confirm. I was not able to return after the group walk ended."
Palm Warbler (Setophaga palmarum) (1)
- Reported Nov 10, 2025 13:00 by Jamie Chavez
- VSFB--B2500, Santa Barbara, California

It was feeding on the ground and flew up to the chainlink fence around the tanks, and eventually up to a power line. It was brownish above and whitish below and exhibited frequent tail pumping. It looked slightly smaller than the Yellow-rumped Warblers it was with. The bird was observed without binoculars at a distance of approximately 30 ft. It appeared to be a dull HY bird."
