This afternoon at the south end by the amphitheater, I spotted my first goldeneye of the fall at Lake Merritt which to my surprise turned out to be a male Barrow's. The number of Barrow's Goldeneyes at Lake Merritt and the channel by Laney College have dwindled as the years have gone by, so it's good to see one this early and hopefully that will be a good omen. The first seen at Lake Merritt last year was on December 1st.
