Date: 11/4/25 5:53 pm From: Gyekis, Joseph Peter <jpg186...> Subject: Recently finished field trips and upcoming Arboretum outings
Hi everyone,
On Sunday afternoon a large group enjoyed had a sunny stroll at the Barrens to Bald Eagle corridor with Clearwater. There were birds around, but they all stayed far away from us, so we just had to suffer through the perfect weather in the beautiful environment with lovely company. While birds were tough to get good looks at, some of us did get to hear a new-to-me mammal noise that may have been a fox or coyote from the cornfield adjacent to the corridor. At the end, we talked about the mental benefits of being outside and allowing one's self to be bored, and the idea that sometimes the bird attendance is better for morning bird walks.

This evening we stood around the PFC Foster Joseph Sayer Memorial site by the dam at Bald Eagle State Park, enjoying a little more water bird action than expected (a grebe, a heron, a Bonaparte's Gull, some geese and mallards and ring-bills) and a lot more roosting bird action than expected, with thousands of blackbirds and robins rolling in during our sunset hour.

In November and December, there will be a series of Arboretum activities. All will meet at the Overlook Pavilion. The robin roost watches will be very little walking, the owl hike could be well over a mile of walking, morning bird walks as usual, a fairly small loop on grassy trails.
