There have been hints that the American golden- plover was still present in the high-tide Black-bellied Plover roost on Stint Island off the end of 10th Street but the documentation was incomplete and no photos, until yesterday! A couple different people got photos Yesterday, and I was just there a few minutes ago between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. Monday, and the bird is still happily roosting on the western half of stint Island, as it was back in late October. Also at least one continuing Pacific Golden Plover seen almost every day, as expected.
Also, at the Salt Works, Yesterday by others there are a few remaining red-necked phalaropes (up to 4) with up to two Red phalaropes on Pond 12, which is the large pond to the north of stint Island pond and where the White winged Tern hung out quite a bit last summer. A good scope Is a necessity. This morning I had one Red and three Red-neckeds. You can actually tell the size difference of the two phalarope species if they are mixed together, from scoping from the end of 11th, which gives you slightly better height, and better light early in the morning which is the only time you could possibly make out the difference given the lack of heat distortion early in the morning.
Yesterday at Sweetwater Reservoir, there were five continuing Greater White-fronted geese and a Cackling Goose and a rare Inland Red breasted merganser and two Common loons and a returning wintering Prairie falcon.
