In addition to the CAVE SWALLOWS reported by Dan Rottino yesterday and being seen at several shoreline locations over the last couple of days, there have been reports of other uncommon flyovers.
Especially notable is that EVENING GROSBEAKS have been heard and seen flying over for the last few days. This morning I had one overhead at Bauer Farm in Madison, and reports also came in today from Barn Island in Stonington and Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, where Tina Green was leading a bird walk and heard them.
Since this species might make an incursion into our state this winter, it’s a good time to study their calls so you are ready should they fly over. I believe it was Tina who suggested studying Evening Grosbeak calls and I wholeheartedly agree after today’s experience!
