It started off clear, cool, and windy, turning overcast and super windy, on the bird survey today. 41 species were found. The wind made most birds hard to find except for waterfowl which were frequently being flushed up by a couple Bald Eagles. Most notable find today was a flock of immature White Ibis in Unit 15. Here is my list for today: Black-bellied Whistling Ducks - 40 Wood Duck - 59 Gadwall - 813 American Wigeon - 18 Mallard - 11 Blue-winged Teal - 29 Northern Shoveler - 3 Northern Pintail - 13 Green-winged Teal - 127 Ring-necked Duck - 260 Pied-billed Grebe – 18 Neotropic Cormorant - 1 Double-crested Cormorant - 35 Great-blue Heron - 9 Great Egret - 7 White Ibis - 28 Plegadis species - 1 Black Vulture - 45 Turkey Vulture – 37 Bald Eagle - 2 (1 imm. & 1 adult) Northern Harrier - 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 American Kestrel - 2 Common Gallinule - 3 American Coot – 155 Killdeer - 8 Greater Yellowlegs - 1 Wilson's Snipe - 1 Mourning Dove - 6 Rock Pigeon - 1 Belted Kingfisher - 2 Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1 Eastern Phoebe - 3 American Crow - 159 Carolina Wren - 1 Eastern Towhee - 1 Swamp Sparrow - 3 Northern Cardinal – 1 Red-winged Blackbird - 40 Meadowlark species - 13 Common Grackle - 154 Herps: Western Cottonmouth Good birding!
