Today our DFO/Aiken Audubon field trip to Park County found an adult Green Heron along the South Platte River in Eleven Mile Canyon. It was at Eleven Mile Picnic Ground, which is about 5 miles up from Hwy 24 at the town of Lake George. Credit to El Paso's Jessica Miller for spotting it.
eBird has three other records of this species from Park County, all from July. I am aware of at least one other record for Park that is not in eBird, also from summer. eBird shows no other records for November from any of the state's mountain counties, and no records from those counties after Oct 14. Admittedly, there may be other records not submitted to eBird, but it does indicate the unusual quality of today's record for late fall from the mountains.
We tallied an impressive 22 American Dippers from Lake George to the Eleven Mile Reservoir dam.
