10/27/25-It was quiet most of the day but after a few birds drifted into the feeders & birdbaths, more & more followed.
A male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker flew into the dogwood tree this after noon and positioned himself to show that beautiful red throat. I thought there were two yesterday but our resident “feeder police”, a Northern Mockingbird, kept them moving through the tree branches so the juvenile was the only one I could see clearly.
Nice numbers of Yellow-rumped Warblers continue to move all around our property; they enjoy coming into the birdbaths reminding me how important it is to offer fresh water for resident and migrating birds.
When I went to the mailbox midday, I saw a flock of birds fly out of the tall evergreen and thought they were Cedar Waxwings but I didn’t have binoculars so I wasn’t sure. Later in the day I went for a walk around the yard and spotted a flock of Cedar Waxwings high in the treetops at the back property line.
Happy fall birding,
