The fiesta Island dog run is probably in the worst shape I've ever seen it in fall in the last 15 years in the sense that they have done no recent mowing and so all the tumbleweed is extra thick and extra tall and there are fewer open areas enjoyed by Horned Larks and lots of little tiny open spots that weave in and out through the tumbleweed and which ones and twos and threes of Horned Larks are using. There was only one moderate size cohesive flock and it was at the North end. But there were scattered very small groups at many spots at the South end. Grand total of birds probably 70 or so. A Chestnut collared started out at the South end but then gravitated and joined the main flock at the North end where it was quite cooperative. The Lapland was seen only in flight circling around and calling over the south end with just the little groups of Larks. Recommend coming here with several of your best friends and work the areas as a group.
