I'm pasting this from our e-bird post today as we are now waiting to see if anyone re-finds the bird:
"At 2:10pm (Tuesday, Oct. 28) while foraging on bare ground under a tree, another bird flew in the tree. The pipet assumed a defensive position of crouching down, opening mouth, and looking straight up into tree. Then the pipet flew up into the tree and was immediately chased by the other bird which looked like a small raptor. The raptor chased the bird to NW and both flew across the park. Pipit appeared to get away in time."
A small group of birders looked for any sign of either bird but did not see anything. I was able to capture a photo of the alarmed pipit just before it took off. We're now wondering -- with a degree of concern for its well-being -- if this bird will return to the area.
