Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Julie Brown, Phil Brown

Observers: Chuck Carlson, Dot Currier, Miki Foley, Tom Delaney

Visitors:
33 from as far as Milford, Portland OR, and Thailand in order of least to
greatest distance. First official visit from Mary Verrilli, new volunteer
coordinator from the Harris Center - welcome! And great to spend some time
with Scott from Amherst, MA, who spent his day hiking up and hawk watching
with us.

Weather:
A perfect autumn day with winds from the NE to NNE. Cool and crisp, with
excellent visibility and skies lightly dappled with clouds. Mount
Washington glowed white, at 100 miles away, its towers illuminated
perfectly later in the day.

Raptor Observations:
All day long red-tailed hawk show. Up to seven at a time between the summit
and North Pack, a mix of adults and juveniles, many diving on each other
and ravens, and several hunting. Slow and steady migration of many of the
expected later season species.

Non-raptor Observations:
Snow Bunting (1), Horned Lark (1), and Eastern Bluebird (1) - all by call
notes, but never seen. American Crow migration notable today with 156
birds, mainly in two large congregations and southbound, right on schedule.

Blackbird species (3), Purple Finch (3), Canada Goose (150).

Predictions:
One more morning or full day of NE winds before shifting to less favorable
direction on Thursday. Come on out to help us find a golden eagle!
