Subject: Swamp Sparrow at Sparks Marina and northwest Nevada miscellania
This morning, I found my first Washoe County Swamp Sparrow at Sparks
Marina, in cattails and bulrush on the north side of the peninsula:
https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/644181430.

At Rancho San Rafael Park (Reno), I found likely the continuing Pacific
Wren, found recently by Jordan Juzdowski, near the "What is an Oasis?" sign
on the north side of Evans Creek in the arboretum. Another Pacific Wren
was on the Truckee River at 102 Ranch but calling from the south/Storey
County side of the river. I hiked/bushwacked in to the location on the
south side of the river and couldn't refind the Pacific Wren but did have a
late-ish House Wren. A female/immature Surf Scoter was also my first for
Storey County at the nearby "TRIP/TRIC Pond" in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial
Park/Center.

Pacific Wrens are moving through in numbers; I had a minimum of four in
Hubmoldt County (Nevada) last week, including my county-first in Paradise
Valley, multiples in the Santa Rosa Mountains, and one in the Kings River
Valley/Thacker Pass area, yesterday (plus two in southern Harney County
Oregon, this week). Golden-crowned Kinglets also remain on the move in
Humboldt and Pershing Counties. Another Surf Scoter was at Onion Valley
Reservoir, in Humboldt County's Pine Forest Range, on 10/23, and 2 Dunlin
were at "nearby" Gridley Lake (also 2 Dunlin at Pitt-Taylor Reservoir in
Pershing County on 10/19).

Good Birding,
