October 26th was a great day for FOS (first of season) birds returning to the backyard. Before noon, two Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers appeared in the Dogwood Tree; however, the resident Mockingbird kept chasing them around the branches, making it difficult to get a good look. Later this afternoon, around 4pm, two Dark Eyed Juncos landed on the ground then moved in for a drink at the birdbaths. FOS appearance for those sweet "Snow Birds" while the Great Blue Lobelias are still in bloom. As the sun was starting to set, a pretty American Robin flew into the Dogwood to end the day of birding.
Other yardbirds:White-throated Sparrows & White-crowned Sparrows continue to grow in numbers. Downy, Hairy, and Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Tufted Titmouse, House Finch, Carolina Wren, Eastern Bluebird, Mourning Dove, Song Sparrow, N. Cardinal, plus some noisy flyovers Common Raven and American Crow.
Happy birding!
