The park was quite birdy this afternoon. The first Horned Larks and American Pipits have arrived, and there's an uptick in Savannah Sparrow and Yellow-rumped Warbler numbers. In with the Yellow-rumps was a Palm Warbler. A Loggerhead Shrike continues, and there was a Burrowing Owl (please don't ask for exact location). On Thursday there were 3 Northern Harriers, a female, male, and juvenile.
Mark Bright and I were out at Scorpion Canyon, Santa Cruz Island this past Wednesday (10/22). Birding was pretty slow. Best birds were a Lazuli Bunting and 3 Clay-colored Sparrows.
You might remember that two American Crows have been a fixture at Scorpion for the past couple of years. The ravens seem to tolerate having them around. Both birds were hanging out together three weeks ago, but on my last two visits there was only one.
