We had a great trip today to the Dr. Robert Gross Percolation ponds off Noble Ave. The day started out cool and cloudy but the sun came out at the end. We had a total of 43 species with many good looks at great birds. We had all five birds from the heron family including the SNEG and the GREG pictured which was so nice to be able to compare them side-by-side. We also had good looks at 3 BCNH and a pair of GREEN HERONS. The lone GBHE was roosting high in a pine tree. We also had a great views of a female BELTED KINGFISHER (or Queenfisher as Chris likes to call them!) It was so nice to see some returning ducks including a COMMON MERGANSER, RUDDY DUCK and 5 BUFFLEHEADS. Right at the end of the trip one of our sharp-eyed participants spotted a LINCOLN’S SPARROW so that was a great way to finish up! Thanks to all who birded with us and helped finds all these great birds.
