Hi,
On Tuesday, Dan and I led a beginner bird walk at McClellan Ranch. We saw all the usual suspects, but what everyone was most excited by was a prolonged flicker sighting. We saw at least 4 feeding on the ground by a big oak tree right by the community garden, with some more calling nearby. Through our binoculars we noted that two were yellow-shafted and one was red-shafted. We couldn't get a good view of the last one. Keep an eye on the checklist, I asked a participant to upload his photos but he hasn't had time yet: https://ebird.org/checklist/S280686488
I talked to Matthew after the walk and he said yellow-shafted are rarer for the area, but he agreed that that's what we saw after seeing the photos.
