Subject: [CT Birds] Fall perennials for hummers
Since the question has been raised—-these Sept-October perennials are much loved by hummingbirds in Sept-early Oct. The group below is flowering on our property now.
Nepeta (Catmint)
Mexican Sage
Lobelia Cardinalis (Cardinal flower)
Verbena Bonarensis
Guara (whirling butterfly)
Lonicera (honeysuckle)
Asters
Agastache
Budleia —(Butterfly bush)
Above are a delight for hummers providing much needed energy for them in autumn! Hope you can add some of these to your gardens for late fall foraging!
Another note—- flat top clusters are mostly ignored by hummingbirds. While bees enjoy some of the above, give them a few asters at this time of year!! Enjoy!
