Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Possible Summer Tanager at Kearney Mesa
All,

This morning I am thinking I came across a female Summer Tanager at Kearney Mesa Community park.  I have photos showing a striking yellow/orange bird with large bill, and mostly no wingbars, also picked up a mediocre recording of a downward chatter call indicative of a Summer.  I’m not 100% positive in my ID as this may be a Western after all so I would love some feedback!
I saw it in the clearing here (32°48'10"N 117°09'57"W) it flew between the various trees.  Here is a link to my eBird checklist with the photos and audio: https://ebird.org/checklist/S279061352

email me at <griffinrohrer...> if you would like or we can talk on this thread.

Best,
Griffin Rohrer
San Diego

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
