Hi all,
Passing along a report from visiting birder Andrew Melnykovych who emailed San Diego Bird Alliance this evening:
“I was in the Japanese Garden at Balboa Park this afternoon and briefly saw what might have been a Yellow-green Vireo. My first thought, being from Kentucky, was Red-eyed Vireo, but they're even less likely here. The bird was associating with a couple of Orange-crowned Warblers and was moving around a lot. I never managed a photo, but had one decent look in binoculars. I ultimately put it into eBird as vireo sp. (with a description), which won't trigger an alert or a review, so I'm reaching out to you in case you think it's worth exploring further and want to put the word out. Here's a link to my eBird list:”
Given the recent sightings of Yellow-green Vireo to our north, could be worth investigating tomorrow. The description doesn’t rule out Warbling Vireo, but I’m assuming the observer is familiar with (Eastern) those in KY.
